As part of our commitment to shaping a greener and more inclusive future, the Sail4Sustainability project is proud to present our Train the Trainer and Trainee Program—a key milestone designed to equip youth and their coaches with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to lead the way in sustainable sailing.
What Is the Program About?
The program is based on in-depth research and stakeholder consultation conducted in each partner country during Work Package 2. It responds to real needs identified within local sailing communities—ranging from knowledge gaps in environmental awareness to the lack of inclusive practices and training structures.
We’ve carefully designed training materials tailored to the needs of young people, sailing coaches, and organizational representatives, ensuring they are relevant, relatable, and adaptable to diverse cultural and regional contexts.
Train the Trainer: Building Local Leaders
The Train the Trainer component focuses on empowering coaches, sport educators, and club representatives to become ambassadors of sustainability and inclusion. The program combines cognitive knowledge with practical tools, equipping trainers to:

Understand the environmental impacts of sailing and teach sustainable practices.
-
Promote inclusive participation in sailing regardless of gender, background, or ability.
-
Facilitate engaging workshops using experiential learning and outdoor education.
-
Lead by example as role models for youth and peers.
Trainee Program: Life Skills Through Sailing
The Trainee Program targets young sailors aged 18–30, with modules designed to:
-
Increase awareness of sustainability in everyday sailing activities.
-
Foster cooperation, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
-
Encourage responsible citizenship through environmental stewardship.
-
Promote respect for marine life and local ecosystems.
